Managed Forests and FSC

Managed Forestry: The health of a forest depends on turnover and removal of mature trees from time to time. A managed forest provides an excellent way to achieve this turnover. USDA and the US Forestry Service offer many programs that assist landowners to mark and harvest only the trees that will promote new growth without damaging the existing forest and serve the best interest of the surrounding wildlife. Clear cutting is not a practice that is utilized in a standard managed forest program.

Due to the practice of managed forestry, there are currently more than 747 million acres of forestry in the United States... that’s more than any time since 1960!

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC):

FSC is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way.

Landowners and companies that sell timber, veneer or other forest products use certification as a way to verify that they have practiced forestry consistent within FSC’s strict standards. Independent, certifiers are accredited by FSC to carry out assessments of forest management to determine if standards have been met. These certifiers also verify that companies claiming to sell FSC certified products have tracked their supply back to FSC certified sources.

From the landowner to the final manufacturer, all parties must be certified for the chain of custody certification to be maintained.

We are proud to be FSC certified.
